I started volunteering for Cherished in January 2016 after seeing a post on Facebook. When I first joined I planned to knit, I didn't think I'd be brave enough to transform a wedding dress.
My nana taught me to sew as a child, many school holiday spend making stuffed toys or items of clothing. In more recent years I hadn't made much other than curtains for our home or children's fancy dress costumes.
It wasn't long after joining Cherished that I requested my first dress to work on. It was definitely nerve wracking working on the first dress, but also so rewarding seeing the end results.
When I'm not sewing, I'm also knitting for Cherished and I've recently taught myself to crochet. I love the work I do for Cherished and feel so blessed to be able to help families at such a sad time.
In my family life, I'm married with two lovely boys who are 8 and 11 years old. I'm a teacher, working 3 days a week.
One of the generous brides who sent her dress to Nicola said the following:
Thank you so much for the photos! They are absolutely stunning and I'm welling up a little im so pleased! I cannot thank you enough and the work you have put in is incredible, I am sure they will be very much appreciated by those who will use them.

Here are some of Nicola's transformations and as she is super talented her knits too. The first picture was so amazing we used this as our website relaunch image.
